Our Story

The idea for Zen Essence didn't come easily. My fascination with Japanese culture and craftsmanship actually began at an early age—I was drawn to its precision, simplicity, and deep respect for materials. But for years, I didn't realize it could lead to something meaningful in my own life.

For the longest time, I searched for work that truly felt like purpose. I've held many different jobs—from construction worker to structural engineer—and each time, I'd feel initial excitement, only to realize within a month or two that it wasn't quite right. The road wasn't linear: there were big twists, turns, detours, and even moments when I circled back to older paths. It wasn't a straight line at all.

I know it might sound a bit cliché, but the key was not giving up on that underlying ambition. I kept searching for the genuine spark—and eventually found it in crafting lamps and building a company around them.

The breakthrough came during a long caravan trip. One quiet day, I sat down with my notebook and listed out all the jobs I'd done, plus new ones I could imagine pursuing. I expanded on each idea in detail, exploring what truly excited me—and somehow, that early interest in Japanese techniques resurfaced, evolving into the concept of creating Japanese-inspired lamps. The rest is history.
